As most of you know we have spent a long time on the new website and it is now up and running live! You will see some pages forwarding you to new ones, so be prepared to cope with the transition for a day or two. We forsee it being a pretty easy transfer, so let us know your comments and what you think about the new site. We have tried to keep it in line with our current pages so as not to be too confusing, whilst updating the property functions to make them even more manageable.
October is definitely upon us and with it comes the lovely 'fresh' weather. No more searing heatwaves although the days are still hot and it is still beach weather.
All our best wishes and congratulations go to Olimpia for Crete for Life, as we wish her and her husband Antonio all the best on their recent marriage. Still Olimpia is working hard fundraising for her charity Crete for Life, so do contact her for more information through her website, details of which are above.

A 51-year-old fugitive from Alikarnassos jail in Crete, who is believed to have swindled dozens of house hunters, was arrested on Thursday, police said yesterday. According to police, the convict would pose as a potential tenant in order to obtain the keys to apartments, which he would then show to house hunters, posing as the owner in order to pocket purchase deposits. It was unclear how much money he allegedly amassed in this way. The 51-year-old had been serving a sentence for multiple cases of fraud and forgery.

- There will be a large increase in the number of Europeans who will vote in the October local elections according to figures released yesterday.
Interior Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos said that 8,921 European Union citizens, including people from the 10 newest member states, will vote in October.
This is six times more than those who voted in the 1998 local elections, which were the first polls in which non-Greeks could cast their ballot. This year’s figure is also 2.5 times higher than the number of EU citizens that voted in the 2002 local elections.
Almost 3,000 of the voters are Britons, who make up the largest group, followed by more than 1,800 German nationals who registered before the June 30 deadline.
Foreigners will be able to vote in the municipal and community polls but not the prefectural elections.

- A Turkish man who hijacked a Turkish Airlines flight in Greek air space yesterday afternoon forced the plane to land in Italy and then surrendered to police last night, asking for political asylum. The plane had been traveling from Tirana in Albania to Istanbul with 113 passengers and crew on board when it was hijacked over Greece. Four Greek F16s escorted the plane to the Albanian border, where two Italian fighter jets took over the task of shadowing the airliner. The two men forced the plane to land in Brindisi . There were no reports of injuries.

As always, we look forward to seeing you all here in Makriyialos! Other News - As we are founder members for AIPP and work closely with the EEAU and SEK we are very aware of the current trends of many agents to overextend market prices due to current demand; therefore causing an unreal market value to be levied. We try very hard to keep prices to the professionaly, evaluated level; but please bear in mind that this is a rapidly changing market and as such, is constantly open to new market forces. Therefore if you do property price differences, please contact us and ask for confirmation.
- Any suggestions or advise about our web site or newsletter is always happily received. E-mail us with your views.
- Moving or have moved to Crete and would be interested in writing a monthly column for us? Contact us with details of your column ideas.
