What's happening in Crete

  • The Makrigialos Carnival hit town recently. We've added some pictures of this spectacular event on our website - view them here. Everyone had a great day and the weather was amazing.
  • Easter is a month later than most European countries and falls on May 1st in Greece this year.
  • May 1st also happens to be a Spring festival where people tend to go into the countryside, pick flowers and make wreaths that then hang over their house doors, so it is a double festival this year.
  • Some also say that many Cretans take their first swim in the sea on this day, although we don't necessarily believe this, we are expecting it to be a popular time of year for all at the beach!
  • Ivan is still doing his 50 day walk on crete, raising money for the Malia animal shelter, so all who wish to support him, look at his website and sponser him on-line. http://www.crete-in-50-days.com/
  • Sitia Aiport update: No plans to open this summer, for international flights yet, but we will keep you informed. Keep looking at our forum, for more Airport news!
  • Golf seems to be the flavour of the month with the Loyalwards scheme pushing forward in Sitia region.
  • H Kathimerini, seems to think that despite the hype, the scheme near Paleakastro, will not be functioning until 2009.

We have some very gifted people living in our village and one of these is a local gentleman Stefanos who can make the most amazing structures out of iron and metal.
