Anatoli Donkey Farm For a day out with a difference, why not come to Anatoli and spend time with us and our 5 rescued donkeys, 1 foal – oh and not forgetting the crazy pygmy goat. But first a little background. But of course, it could not stop there. Next we offered to take a donkey from a man in Anatoli, which he accepted – we did not give him a lot of choice as we were already treating a bad injury on her back and he was threatening to shoot her. Next another one from Makrilia and then word started to get round so we had visitors to the house asking if we would give a new home to their donkey. To top the lot – so far – we were able to get a foal, just 5 months old along with his companion, a pygmy goat. As well as the walks they work with us in the fields carrying wood etc. and one day we may try ploughing with one, but we will see. So the walks.. The number of possibilities increased with the donkeys. We had moonlit walks, evening walks and picnics, rides for children as well as our first idea of a day walk with food and wine. Around Anatoli the scenery and views are magnificent and depending on the time of year there is a great selection of flowers and where we keep the donkeys is a famous area for Orchids. We also see many birds during the year, including vultures almost every day. Some of the comments we have had so far are; ‘A fantastic birthday surprise for my new bride. We even had a birthday cake with candles. (Jochen from ‘This has been my favourite day’ (Ellie from ‘Thank you for a crazy moonlight picnic with shooting stars, wonderful food and George the donkey standing in the middle of us all’ (Ali from Cornwall) ‘The donkey walk was brilliant and I will never forget the sight of Spitha the dog riding in the donkey basket!’ (Tom from ‘I didn't know big animals could be so cuddly’ (James) ‘A wonderful surprise for the children’ (family from This Pascha, we had open days when people could come along and just visit. This was very successful and fun. Also exhausting, as we spent 2 days taking children for rides. The youngest being just 2 years old, who rode one of the donkeys, while on the mobile telling her grandmother about it – needless to say she was Greek. So, if you want a different experience, what do we offer? None of these options are for large groups, we cater only for a family or friends and we do what each group wants to do. We have one day walks around Anatoli with an excellent picnic lunch and local krasi and juice for the younger ones – cost €25 per person. Special rates for children. Half day or evening walks – cost €15 per person, food can be provided if required. Children’s rides and visits– these are arranged to suit the age of the children. We can give a cost guide but we prefer that people just give something towards the cost of feed (for the donkeys), if they wish. Our stables are located near Agios Georgios just below Anatoli. We prefer that people phone first for information and directions to have a visit, as we are not there all of the time and can be out walking. With 6 donkeys we have regular supply of Kopria or fertiliser, which we sell at a very reasonable price. We look forward to seeing some of you. We started with just one donkey – George who came from a local village and as an experiment we started to offer mountain walks with George carrying the food and other bags. We inflicted this on friends, to gain a reaction and were encouraged and started slowly to promote the idea and found enough people who wanted this different day out.
