Join the main National Road towards Rethymnon and follow this all the way to Heraklion. It is a good road but with very few dual carriageway sections. After leaving the immediate area of Heraklion you will find it becomes much less busy. Follow this road for some 60 kilometres until the approach to Agios Nikolaos and you will come to a set of traffic lights. Turn right at the lights following the signs for Sitia and Ierapetra. There is another set of traffic lights after about 700 metres and here you should go straight on. The coastal road winds up and down with some amazing views and you should follow it for some 20 kilometres, passing the ancient site of Gournia on your right. Soon after the site you will descend a hill with a steep curve into the Mid way across the island, follow the road as it bears left for Ierapetra (with Kalo Chorio signposted straight ahead). A little further on, you reach a set of traffic lights. Go straight ahead. FOR THE IERAPETRA OFFICE If you are meeting us in Ierapetra, go straight ahead at the next set of traffic lights and head into town. You will pass the bus station on your right and hit a set of traffic lights. Go straight ahead at the lights round the bend and still head straight into town. You will pass a DVD shop and then the road bends to the right and again carries straight on. You will see a school on your right and in the summer you can park here. Usually this costs about 2 -3 Euros. If you carry straight on, you will see a junction, where you will basically head straight across. You pass the taxi rank and the local town hall and then will need to do the next left towards the sea and the harbour, where you can park. Again the cost is about 2-3 Euros. It is usually easier to park in the harbour area as you can walk down the sea front and also into town easily. If you park in the first school car park, walk towards Alpha Bank and up the pedestrianised street, where you will see a large cafeteria in the square where there is a cake shop and a coffee bar sharing similar tables and chairs on the square. Opposite the square is the National Bank of Greece and then there is a small walk way to the beach. Next to this is a corner travel office, a clothes shop and an internet cafe. We are next door to the internet cafe. Very useful too! If you park in the harbour, pass the police and magistrates court and walk down the road where you will see the National bank opposite the main square and our office a few doors further down. FOR THE MAKRIGIALOS OFFICE As you near Ierapetra you will pass a Lidl supermarket on your left. (A new road has been built which by passes Ierapetra and there is a small sign on the left just before the Peugeot garage on your right hand side and the first street light in the middle of the road. The sign says Sitia, but it can be a little confusing to find this left hand turn towards Makrigialos / Sitia. Therefore it is probably easier to do the following...) One kilometre after Lidl, you will reach the sign on the right of the road, announcing that you are entering Ierapetra and that the speed limit is reduced to 40k. Slow down and start to indicate that you are tuning left. Take the first turning on the left, which is immediately before the start of the central reservation. When you reach the end of this road, turn left onto the coast road.Follow this road along the coast for just over 20 kilometres and you will come to the Our main office is in town opposite the butchers and near both the Analipsis church and Motorplan car hire office. You can park your car in the Motorplan designated parking area on the right hand side just after our office. It is sign posted 'MOTORPLAN PARKIN!’ Our other office is based in the harbour, so as you come into Makrigialos and down the main hill you will notice a shell petrol station on your left hand side. Park opposite in the beach area and walk down to the harbour. Our office is opposite the first taverna called LIMANI.
