Just behind the main town of Makri Yialos is the protected conservation area of White River. Very quiet and peaceful with the river running through the area all the way down from the Pefki Gorge. Lots of olive and lemon trees and a wonderful array of wild flowers in the spring. Tasteful apartments and houses have been build and all in keeping with the tradition of the area. The beach is roughly a ten minute walk away.

Time ago, the villagers from Pefki and Agios Stephanos, would come down from the mountains to gather in their crops that grew further down towards the sea and as the harvest took time, they also built small houses to use as a base there too.
