This month we focus on the weather and seasonality. Here in Makrigialos, the weather is still very good, with little sign of the Meltemi this year.Carol Paloudaki from www.livingincrete.net , offers some good advise about the weather.

Carol says that the weather can be 'changeable and sunny with occasional cloudy and rainy spells, but still warm and sometimes even hot. Swimming in the sea is still pleasant, as the temperature is much warmer in October than in May! After the first showers in September, the flora starts to emerge again and October is Crete's 'second spring'. See more snippets of information from Carol below.

Ann Lisney's column this month is about Seasonality and how each season is easily remembered. Read her column 'To everything - there is a season' below, to pick up some very useful tips.

We have entered the business stage of the year, when new possibilities are being added almost daily. Keep checking the business section for details of newly added properties.The east seems to be very popular this month, with most places booked up for the last few months of the summer season as more people look for a working investment solution.

What's happening in Crete Ochi Day - 28th October. A National Holiday throughout Greece commemorating the Anniversary of when Metaxa said no, (Ochi) in 1940, to an occupation of Greece during World War II. The day is celebrated throughout Greece and Crete with school and military parades in the towns. More on the web siteWWW.CRETEFORLIFE.COM. The charity needs to raise a total 15.000 Euros to be able to bring ten children to Crete, for a holiday next year. These children are from different countries where they are victims of war, chemical or natural disasters. Log onto the site to read more and maybe give a donation. Crete is increasing in popularity in comparison to Spain as an investment possibility and holiday hotspot. Read the NSN comments here. Last of the Charter flights to Crete for 2005 - Direct charter flights from Europe to Crete end in the last week in October. Grab a bargain flight - but don't worry if you can't make it this month, there are flights from Athens to Heraklion and Chania daily; throughout the winter months. There are also some good deals to be had with Olympic Airlines and Easyjet to Athens and then Aegean air to Crete, if booked early! Chestnut festival - Held in the Western Crete villages of Elos and Prasses on the third Sunday of October. Roast chestnuts, chestnut sweets and raki are freely available as the villages celebrate the chestnut harvest, accompanied by live music and dancing into the early hours.
