Welcome to the May 05 newsletter from Cretan-homes. com.

This month is the month for Greek Easter and May day. The traditional spit-roast lamb will be eaten and flowers collected on May the first.

Easter is a big time of year in Greece, on par with Christmas for other cultures, so if you do plan to come to Greece, now is the time to do it!

For a first hand experience of food with a Greek family, check out Ann Lisney's column on Greek barbecues and 'Getting to know the locals'. See below for the links and pictures.

What's happening in Crete

  • Easter is truly here. We are coming into the Big Week, as it is called here, and this year Easter is a double whammy as it also falls on a bank holiday, the first of May. This is also 'The Spring Festival', where people tend to go into the countryside and pick flowers to make wreaths and then hang them over their house doors or cars.
  • For those of you sponsering Ivan, he has finished his walk! Look on his website for details and donations, as he is still raising money for the Malia shelter. http://www.crete-in-50-days.com
  • Anyone wanting details of where to learn Greek in Crete, there is a new school opening in Heraklion. There are some schools nearer to us, but the main element of Louis's new school is ' to appeal to 'foreigners' like myself, who want to learn Greek, or boost their existing knowledge. The key to the success of this is to make learning fun and challenging.' Please contact us for more details of his new venture.
  • Read an overview of Greece and the UK's trading and investment market. This article was written by Frank Jones, Director of the Trade Development Section at the British Embassy in Athens.

As always, we look forward to seeing you all here in Makriyialos!
