Welcome to the June 05 newsletter from Cretan-homes. com.

This month has truely seen the start of beautiful weather with warm skies and lovely seas. We have had temperatures in the high 20's and a lot of people enjoying swimming so early, in the calm meditternaean seas.

Here in Makrigialos, we have added some great new properties to our web site, so look at the property pages for information. Some new pieces of land have come up for sale in Analipsi with the most stunning views. In both Pefki and Agios Stephanos, there are more renovation possibilities, so keep looking as maybe your house will be there this month!

Ann Lisney's column this month is about how language can be a barrier and cause some hilarious situations. Read her column on 'Language Difficulties' below.

We also welcome Carol Palioudaki from www.livingincrete.net, with a mass of information necessary to anyone looking at living and/or working here. This month, Carol introduces her book and gives us some snippets of information on what's happening in Crete this month. See below for details.

How do you choose an estate agent? How many more people are going to set up companies with little understanding of market forces, language or basic experience? How can you be sure of what you have bought without an agent? Have a look at our comments in the Crete Gazette this month.

We constantly update the web site, so do keep checking in and as always, any information or comments are very much appreciated!

  • This week is Navy Week: 19th to 26th June. During this week, coastal towns, fishing villages, and ports in all of Greece celebrate the long Greek relationship with the sea and honor the Greek Navy.
  • The Nativity of St. John the Baptist:  On the 24th June. Marked by the burning of the flower wreaths made on May Day. Small bonfires are lit at St. John's churches, and the tradition is for boys leap over the bonfire which is said to ward off bad luck.
  • Sheep Shearing Festival in Psiloritis! - During June feasts take place continually at the 'mitata' for the shearing of the sheep. http://www.psiloritis.net.gr/index_eng.htm
