We welcome photographer, Phil Bebbington and are delighted to have a new link to his web site, which has some fantastic pictures of Crete. (See below for an example of his work). Ann Lisney's column this month is about how walking the Samaria Gorge is not as easy as it seems, so look out for the pitfalls and communication  barriers!  Read her column 'Samaria Gorge' below.

This month Carol Palioudaki, gives us more snippets of information on what's happening in Crete in July. See below for details.

Once again more new properties have been added to our web site, especially in the business section of our web site, so look at the property pages for information. We have added some new pieces of land in Pilalimata and a few great new shop and restaurant opportunities both here and in Ierapetra.

A new development is underway in Makrigialos for twenty, two bedroomed houses surrounding a communal pool. Contact us for details of this exciting new investment option in the village.

We constantly update the web site, so keep checking in and as always, any information or comments are very much appreciated!

What's happening in Crete

  • Update on the airport in Sitia. It is now working with Condor flights to and from Munich. The new rumours are that there may be flights from the UK and Holland coming in this summer. Click here for our Sitia airport  domestic timetable.
  • Crete Gazette reports that over 99% of the waters on the beaches in Crete, are of excellent quality. (According to an annual report issued by the European Commission on the quality of EU water.)
  • New figures out, (according to research carried out by Thomson), show that apparently owning a property abroad is now a life ambition for over half the British population! A stunning figure, as apparently 55% want to buy a piece of the Meditteranean way of life. Even so, the main proportion of buyers still go to Spain and Portugal.
  • Throughout July there are cultural programmes running in Heraklion and Hania and Rethymnon is hosting the Renaissance Festival. At each venue, music, cretan dancing, theatre, ballet and art exhibitions, take place in the main towns at various venues. Programmes are published by the local municipalities and available at tourist information offices.
  • Rethymnon is also home to the Wine Festival this month which runs for three weeks in July. Held in the Municipal gardens it is not to be missed, according to Carol!
  • Yakinthia's yearly cultural and music festival, in the village, Anogia, is running from the 27th June until the 4th of July. For more details look at the site  www.yakinthia.com

As always, we look forward to seeing you all here in Makriyialos!
